Goff Langdon is a laid-back private detective, happy with his work, his friends, and his way of life in the small town of Brunswick, Maine. To complement his income in the area's scarce private eye market, he also owns and operates a mystery bookstore. With the help of his wife and friends, Langdon does what he can to help keep his (mostly) peaceful community running "the way life should be."
Langdon is muddling his way through the pandemic like everybody else. Business restrictions have dealt a blow to his mystery bookstore, and nobody leaves the house anymore to get into the kind of trouble that creates the need for a PI. Then it all changes. The bookstore opens back up, and Langdon finds himself with three new cases. He gets hired to find a missing woman, to uncover proof of sexual harassment against another local business owner, and to track down a boy abducted by a madman in an effort to force the state to ease masking restrictions.
With the help of his wife, Chabal, and his friends?Bart, the bad-tempered cop; 4 by Four, the playboy lawyer; long-time pals, Richam and Jewell; and Star, his bookstore employee?Langdon is in a race against time to locate a missing wife, obtain evidence against an unlikeable business owner, and find the kidnapped boy before it's too late...
