-Excerpt-
The tingling spread over my whole body, a pleasant sort of prickling sensation, and I shook my head to try and dispel the sensation even as warmth and heat trickled through my nerves. My brain tried to put a name to it. Aerial hormones? Pheromones? I could diagnose symptoms even while I felt them, the faintly rapid pulse and dilation of the pupils, something that sparked an unknown desire in me.
I heard something, a rustling sound, and it took me a second to realize it was coming from somewhere up above me. The room wasn't cramped, though the cage had been. Filtered water piping and ventilation had been run through the ceiling, to keep unwanted contaminants out and anything our specimens might extrude inside. My blue-green eyes met vibrantly yellow ones. The specimen was loose, of course, as the prison was open, but he hadn't escaped. He had crouched there, waiting, watching me as if to gauge my reaction. He had a sharp nose and chin, fine features, though the dark hands and claws were hidden in a bit of shadow. I could feel that intense gaze move through me and knew there was a flush to my skin, heat on my cheeks. Even if it came unbidden, it was still there.
